Braden Sports Complex

Greenbelt Community Center

Commissioned by the City of Greenbelt in celebration of the enduring legacy of Roy S. Braden, Greenbelt’s first Town Manager, serving 1937-1943

This sculpture represents the JOY of movement and play, as the figure is seen performing a cartwheel. Joy stands 7ft tall and offers an interactive element - kids can climb through the arm openings and adults can also climb and jump off of JOY. Over 350 Community members created and glazed more than 10,000 ceramic pieces that were used to cover the sculpture.
